What actually is life? Life is constantly on the move, constantly changing, taking on multicellular shapes and forms. Sometimes it grows from a tiny seed into gigantic creatures, sometimes it remains small. It growls menacingly, it flutters delicately, it crawls, it flies and, despite all its diversity, it is always in contact with other life forms. Whether symbiosis or competition, life always finds its fulfilment together.
Inspired by a picture book by Christian Borstlap.
The stage design creates a textile world of shapes and colours in a confined space. The object creatures grow together, eat each other, give birth, and sing for and with each other. It symbolises the interconnectedness of all life. A thread of life that winds on forever, transforms and each end represents a new beginning.
The various aspects of life, its creation, and its passing are presented in short scenes with music and object manipulation. Language is used in a playful way, with onomatopoeic combinations of different languages. The result is a colourful gibberish of vocal sounds, syllables and words, as diverse as life itself.
